the conservatory

It's late April and we're in the middle of a winter storm warning. I have a twelve-foot pile of snow in front of my house. I had to run my car for twenty minutes this morning in order to be able to chip the ice off. So today, we went to the conservatory...where it was warm. We saw beautiful flowers, mingled with koi fish, and breathed in the sweet and spicy scent of plants whose names we couldn't pronounce.

Here are some pictures from our fun (and warm!) afternoon.

(We also saw a twenty-foot-long anaconda squeezing/drowning a frozen guinea pig. It doesn't really fit the mood of this post, but it was actually really amazing, so I had to share.)

  1. Awh - you guys got some totally awesome pictures. What a great day!!!

Also, how in the world do you keep a barrette in her hair? Stella will NOT allow it. *sigh*

    1. Yeah, it's a love-hate relationship with the barrette. It usually only works if we make a huge deal of how pretty it looks and then immediately distract her.

  4. I'm sorry you're having awful winter weather too. We came back from Florida to a 32 degree day. This just isn't right when it's mid-April.

What a GREAT idea for a cold day! I may suggest the botanical center for tomorrow, thanks to you!

I love these photos! Looks like lots of fun memories were made!

    1. That squinched up nose is what she does when we tell her to smile. We love it too. (-:

  7. I love the zoo, sounds like fun! I may have to go with the hubs one of these days. I also would have been totally pumped to see the anaconda eat that rodent...not something you see everyday!
